If you're a DM fan, you'll like some of these. Not all. The biggest disappointment, I'm sad to say, are the Paul van Dyk mixes. I'm a longtime PvD fan, so I'm even sorrier to have to say you can't get much more generic than these mixes. Talk about phoning it in. Booka Shade's mixes are a lot more in keeping with the original sense of the song. Track 8 remix is a little odd in places, but it grows on you. 9 (alex smoke) could have been good, but it's way too wrapped up in effects to benefit the big picture.

WoW whak Shite! this song is a Simon puke!!! Comon Dep Moppie..... Get Your sincapative sound together and play the VIBE! You do remember the Vibe that pulses at the gutt. Maybe you should concentrate or smoke some "LIFE ESSANCE"/

I was really looking forward to these remixes but they don't hold a candle to the original.
  • Fantastic DM

Typical of a singles release, there's not much variety in the style here, but the sound is pure Depeche Mode. One of Dave's best lyrical performances since "I Feel You" and "Condemnation".

The mixes here are awesome. This is truly Depeche Mode back in the dance club music arena. Highly recommended.

Martyr is better than half the songs on Playing The Angel so it would seem it was held out to help push the Best Of........ I was relatively disappointed in the Van Dyk remixes. He completely ignores the entire chorus vocals, only using the chorus music. Jacques Lu Cont's remix of Pain That Im Used To turned out to be my favorite of all the PTA singles. Lu Cont (Stuart Price) knows how to make a stomper and keep the vocals intact. The Booka Shade Vocal mix has the chorus in it so I would recommend that if you only purchase one. If I had my choice, I would combine the music of the Van Dyk Edit and use the Booka Shade vocals on top. Lets hope we dont have to wait another 4 years for a new Mode album.
  • The song is an instant classic!!!

Once again Depeche Mode have outdone themselves. What a great song! In addition, Paul Van Dyk should be commissioned full-time to do all of their remixes.
